It sounds like "Half and Half", but it wasn't a soap opera, just a sitcom. Is that what you're talking about, maybe?

And the rich wife had some sort of secret that she was trying to keep from the husband because if he found out he would leave her. It went off the air before the secret was revealed. It was called Generations and it aired on NBC I think in the mid 80's.
