Does anyone know exactly why the soap opera "Passions" is moving exclusively to Directv?

I know it's corny, but I've watched this show since the very first episode. I'm a little irritated that I have to switch from cable to directv to continue watching it. I've heard rumors that I won't be able to view it online anymore after they make the switch. Are they trying to get the show cancelled or something?

I used to have directv and it was nice, but I had to switch to cable becuase I live in a condo and you can't have a dish there. I also can't get dsl where I live so I'm stuck with roadrunner. That means if I cancel my cable service, the cost of my roadrunner will skyrocket. This REALLY sucks - anyone know what's going on??

NBC just straight up cancelled the show, so originally there were no plans to renew the contract; then rabid fans rallied to have it returned, so then it went from cancelled to shopping around for a new network (including on-line channels) And in April it was announced that Direct TV picked up the show and the new season will be part of the channels original lineup. NBC will definitely not air the show online once it switches over, and right now there's no word of who will stream it (unless someone Youtubes it)

I know, it's jacked up, ain't it? You're not alone. I barely get to watch the episodes now, because while I'm at school I miss the episodes. It's hard enough for me to get a computer around the house to watch these last final eps.( my 2 brothers and 1 sister and 2 computers. 1 my mom uses and the other, we share). It's real jacked up. I mean, they won't even put one single soap on a website so people like us can either miss out on it or by the directv. It would make it a lot easier for some people and it wold make them/us a lot happier. But I guess these days, the only happy they care about is that green paper in their pocket that they're hustling from people like us just to watch one simple EPISODE! But, once Passions ends Sept, 7 that Friday, next Monday Sept 10, the Ellen Degeneres show will be airing the whole hour Passions use to air. I mean, you find something that occupys you, and they pull the **** right from under you!!! %26gt;_%26lt;
NBC is expanding the TODAY show to 4 hours/day. It begins on the east coast at 7 a.m. and will run until 11:a.m. NBC canceled Passions to get the extra hour. Sucks, doesn't it?

My guess is ratings. I've been watching from day one as well I just hope it has a proper ending since I would be watching on DirecTV. ^_^ DJ
NBC cancelled the show eariler this yr- the fact is that Passion was the Lowest Rated soap since it started and only did well in the teen age group- Low ratings mean the show did NOT make enough $$$ to NBC to keep making it-

You probably would be able to try either abc.com or cbs.com. You could also try soapnet.com or you could also try youtube. I guess it depends on the soap you that you are going to watch. What soaps do you watch. For me - im watch two CBS soaps and the rest i watch on ABC.

I'm not sure if there are any that are directly translated. But I assure you there are MANY equivalents. It appears that soap operas "telenovels" are even more popular for Spanish culture. They come on ALL day instead of just during the late morning. Just watch a local syndicate channel of Univision. I'm sure you will find something very similar.

Most won't accept unrepresented vitas or portfolios. You'll probably have to find yourself an agent first. The first step might be to look on the internet or in the yellow pages for "talent agencies", be careful though, that you only sign with a repudable agent or agency with a proven track record. If they ask for money up front to represent you or "process your application" that is a big red flag that it's a scam.

I was enrolled in a private school for about 10 yr. since I was able to go to school, I knew basically everyone there, even the new people that enrolled, we were like a big family. Then we had to move because California was getting really friggin expensive. Now its 2 yr. later and I found out the pastor at that school had an affair with one of my best friends mother and "ran away with eachother". That school and the church was burned down to the ground, one of my mom's best friend died from her third time of colon cancer. It's been five months and we were recently in a car accident, and basically financially screwed for awhile. Can this happen on a normal basis???

I wouldn't use the word glorify. I think they want to make pre-teens and teenagers AWARE of the circumstances that they could entail after unprotected sex.

Parents need to have the sex talk at an early age and help them to understand the consequences of sex.

There's a story on OLTL now and I think they'll go the adoption route. They're copying the story from Juno.

Yes, I think they do. It was brought up with Lily pregnancy and remember Lulu Spencer had an abortion last summer. Just another example of people avoiding the consequences of their actions. There is nothing glorious or favorable about abortion. (Lulu is on General Hospital)
They should be glorifying abstinence. Or at the very least birth control. But you are right - it seems to be the thing these days on the soaps with teenage pregnancies.
I don't think they are glorifying it, Starr is not going into this happy. She is desperate and thinks it is the only way out. Her father will kill Cole, she said they did not go all the way and so now she would have to tell the truth. I think they are showing teens that it is not an easy decision, and to use protection, that only having sex once could lead to a pregnancy. She feels she must sacrifice her baby's life for the life of her lover. Langston is pointing out the bad of having an abortion, how could she live with this decision for the rest of her life etc.
When I saw Starr in the clinic today, I thought about Lulu on GH. That's 2 too many thoughts about abortion for me. I don't like to even think about it much less watch it on TV. I think a teenage pregnancy that actually had a happy or semi-happy ending would be nice for a change...........
So im not sure about which soaps you watch but most of the teens are seniors in high school or are in college so wether they have sex, or on the pill or whatever its just a show its for the purpose of tv. Teens are going to do what they want once they are 17+. And parents just have to believe that they did the best job raising their child. Many parents force their views on abortion down their child's throat. but i think that the shows are just making the options known. On a side note ppl should just stop trying to take away a woman's right to choose what to do with her body. i hate ignorant ppl. sry just had to get that out there.

He walks into the master bedroom and spots her (a young Debbie Harry) with another man (dun dun dun... Patrick Stump). Ultimate betrayal. So there's this huge showdown and Patrick shoots Pete (we're all celebrating). Debbie and Patrick hide his body in the woods. After a while people start to notice Pete is missing and some care enough to search for him. Meanwhile Debbie starts acting different. Her bestfriend Joan Jett notices. Because of this they have a falling out. People start to get concerned with Pete's disappearance and detective Oli Sykes gets the case. After almost a year of searching Oli finds Pete's skeleton and is able to charge Patrick and Debbie with murder. Both are assigned a lawyer, Trace Cyrus, but they loose anyway. Patrick gets the death sentance and Debbie gets life. Patrick meets Micheal Jackson in prison (while awaiting death) and they become close. I still like the idea of David and Vicki, even though I know it'll never happen. How about a crossover? Kendall from AMC with Cole from OLTL - that way, Erica and Todd could get into it, bring everyone in the two towns into the whole big battle; Zach couild threaten Cole, which would p*** Starr off, Erica would accuse Cole of being a gold-digger and probably say his mother tried to steal one of her husbands. There is always a serious side to contact 'sports'. The injuries though exaggerated are very real. The wrestlers put their bodies on the line for our entertainment pleasure and their HUGE paychecks. The story line however is scripted much like a soap opera.
Well i think the time they spend away from their families and the injuries they face are very serious.

Andrew speaks the truth! Its sad that the Cena fans can't handle the truth. WWE rarely gets serious unless somebody dies or gets in big trouble but then again WWE always tends to put everything on tv just to embarrass the people who get in trouble. What I have noticed recently is that all of the jokey type of interviews have slowed down unless it is comedy bit like Saltino Marinara.
How about how hard the wrestlers have to train and all the time and effort they have to put in to get to WWE and TNA. Unfortunately woman鈥檚 wrestling is all about the looks, they are increasing the drug test's and the storyline is just to make the match's interesting. What about the sport itself? That is what the fans watch for, at least I hope.

Since I ain't seen it since it went exclusively to DirectTV, I do not have an opinion on it now. It was cheesy, and at times just over the top. Other times it was relatively entertaining.

I watched Passions when it first came on the air. It was a fun soap opera, and while farfetched at times (a witch, talking doll, an angel, etc), it was still a good way to pass some time! I stopped watching it when i went away to college and university and haven't started back into it since. But, I tried to get into one episode not too long ago, and couldn't follow the storyline or get sympathetic to the characters.

They're elders, and have been volunteering forever there, but every week it's the same issue! The truth is, ratings. The more sex there is the more people watch, or so they think anyway. I don't think it's right either because kids like to watch wrestling but that is the way of the world. McMahon's children are grown now so he probably doesn't think the same way he used to when they were young. I wonder if he has grandchildren?

well, first of all i think it stems from the fact that they have no REAL talent anymore (i.e. Steve Austin, The Rock) none of the new guys have any charisma, no ability to win the crowd. there are also no characters in wrestling anymore, no guys with masks that have cool gimmiks. Kane was the last of that crew and then off came the mask and he just sucked after that. There's just no suspense anymore, nothing unexpected happens anymore. and noone stands out. Plus you've got all the OLD guys that should be gone (Rick Flair and Shawn Micheals) sticking around trying to be 20 years old still, it's just ridiculous.
i must agree with your assessment. that said the reason wwe has changed so much is the perverted society in which we live. unforutnately the majority of viewers of these wrestling programs are younger males, thus they are more interested in sex, mocking god, attempting suicide and such. a great example of this is a show called jackass where the "actors" (term used very loosely) do stupid things for a cheap thrill and for the viewers entertainment. that said the wwe is interested in ratings and the direction it has gone is what is going to drive those ratings for the time being, and in a while it will change and find something else perverted to focus its attention on.

I don't think such a thing as a wrestling company exists anymore, no one is actually wrestling. It is entertainment. A soap opera is a pretty good description of what things have become but you have to apply it to TNA and WWE. In fact, I'd say it applies more to TNA because their backstage skits and promos are more juvenile and childish than anything in WWE. Plus WWE acting is overall better.
If its main source of revenue is ticket sales then its a wrestling company. If it depends on selling an image that is perceived to be cool through merchandising then it is just a company that is only out to make a profit off the young impressionable marks.

Yes, Lindsay killed Spencer because she found out about Tommy. Todd finds out soon because I read in a magazine that Marcie's brother comes back to the show in October while Marcie %26amp; Michael fight Todd in court for custody. Lindsays son Will comes back while she is on trial (she probably will get away with self defense) Annie's secret involves her parents and brother. Not sure if she or the brother was responsible for the accident that made her father deaf. Spike will end up getting the cochlear implants since the real life son of Blair %26amp; Max (OLTL) is going on Erica's show in September as a real life kid who was born deaf and had the implant done. I'm sure Liz %26amp; Jason will get together and of course the truth about baby Jake will come out.

That is one reason why, despite still liking wrestling, I am not as much of a fan anymore. In the good old days there were more compelling, realistic storylines. Matches today are too short as well. The stuff like the Undertakerhas always griped me because it is an insult to anyone with an IQ above three. It's my fave too! Sometimes the characters and story-lines are too ridiculous, but that's what makes it soooooo addictive. My favorite characters are Theresa %26amp; Ethan...they are so close to being a couple that I feel I should give them a push...Ethan needs to make up his mind and ditch the witch (Gwen) %26amp; that moran mother (Rebecca) of hers.

As ridiculously stupid as it is, I watch it. One thing that's for sure, in every episode, at least one guy is going to take his shirt off for some reason or another. I'm just so tired of Theresa making that stupid "crying" face. It's been like 7 years and she has no other facial expressions.
it has gotten really ridiculous...the acting is pretty bad even for a soap...they characters change way too much...there have already been like what...3 different ethans...i like all my children much better...its not as confusing
I love Passions, but I think people have to realize that to truly love and appreciate the show, you have to realize it is very "tongue in cheek" style comedy. From the pop culture references that make us laugh to storylines that are so absurd they make our eyes bulge, the show continues to delight fans. Constantly named as the lowest rated soap, Passions still has a huge following.

I miss JT Cornell. I think Jared is a fake. I want Theresa and Ethan back together. I think Miguel is annyoing but not as annoying as Fox. I think Chad is cheating on Whitney with a man.
